Water Heaters

Water Heaters

A water heater is a utility that uses thermodynamics as a means to heat your water.

Water heaters provide hot water for basic amenities like bathing, dishwasher, laundry washer, cooking, and even space heating. Many repairs can be done to a water heater. Now, the only question is…what problem are you having? Most problems with a water heater are due to plumbing, breaks, or leaks. The most common issues are no hot water, not enough hot water, rusty colored water, low rumbling or popping noise emitted from the water heater, rotten egg odor, higher pitched whining when operating, and, but is not limited to, water leaking from the bottom of the heater. Water heaters in general tend to break down as they get older, this is due to wear and tear. This can also cause the components that heat the water to stop working. Sediment buildup and corrosion are also common occurrences when looking at a used water heater. There are also issues that are associated with the type of water heater your are using, gas and electric.

Tank Water Heaters

Tank water heaters are the traditional choice for many households, storing 40–50 gallons (or more) of hot water ready for use. They provide a reliable supply of water for showers, appliances, and daily tasks, making them ideal for families or homes with multiple bathrooms. These systems are cost effective, easy to install, and widely available, offering a dependable solution for your hot water needs. With regular maintenance, tank water heaters can provide years of consistent performance and peace of mind.

Tankless Water Heaters

Tankless water heaters (also called on demand water heaters), heat water only when it’s needed, eliminating the need for a storage tank. This design provides virtually endless hot water while saving energy, since you’re not constantly heating a tank of water. Tankless units are compact, freeing up space in your utility area, and can last significantly longer than traditional tank systems with proper care. They’re an excellent choice for energy conscious homeowners or anyone looking to enjoy modern, efficient hot water solutions without running out during peak usage times.

Hybrid Water Heaters

Hybrid water heaters combine the reliability of traditional tank systems with the energy saving technology of heat pumps. By drawing heat from the surrounding air and transferring it to the water, hybrid models use significantly less electricity than conventional electric heaters while still providing ample hot water for your home. They’re an ideal solution for families looking to reduce utility costs without sacrificing performance. Hybrid water heaters also come with advanced features, such as programmable settings and faster recovery rates, making them a modern, eco friendly choice for homeowners who want efficiency, convenience, and long term savings.

Gas Water Heaters

Gas water heaters use natural gas or propane to heat water quickly and efficiently, making them a strong option for homes with high hot water demand. They often heat water faster than electric models, which means shorter recovery times after heavy use. Gas water heaters are typically very reliable and can handle larger households with multiple simultaneous showers or appliances. They can also be more cost effective to operate in areas where natural gas is readily available, offering both convenience and savings while providing a steady, dependable supply of hot water.

Electric Water Heaters

Electric water heaters are a popular choice for homes without gas lines, offering safe and efficient hot water without the need for combustion. They are available in both traditional tank and modern tankless models, making them adaptable to a variety of household needs. Electric units are easy to install and maintain, and they provide consistent performance for daily showers, laundry, and dish washing. With proper care, an electric water heater can be a long lasting and dependable solution, ideal for homeowners looking for a low maintenance, energy efficient option.

Gas Heater Problems

There are issues that are associated specifically with gas heaters.
-The heater is not large enough to provide a sufficient amount of hot water for your family: Replacing it is the most common solution.
-No hot water: This is often fixed by relighting the pilot light
-Pilot light is not staying lit or it keeps going out: This is sometimes caused by dirt and dust, try cleaning the area.
-Dirty heated water, loud/noisy heater: Sometimes the tank needs to be flushed.
-Leaking of valves: Replacement is most common, but tightening is often a quick fix.
-None or not enough hot water: Could be something wrong with the temperature control.
-Water is scalding hot to no end: Could be the temperature controls, if the heater cannot be turned down, it needs to be replaced.
-Rusty water tank or water: Replace it as soon as possible.

Electric Heater Problems

-Sediment buildup: This might be fixed by softening the water.

-Dirty water/noisy heater: Tank may need flushing.
-None or not enough hot water: Could be something wrong with the temperature controls.
-Rusty water tank or water: Replace it as soon as possible.
-Leaking of valves: Replacement is most common but tightening is often a quick fix.
-Water is scalding hot to no end: Could be the temperature controls, if the heater cannot be turned down, it needs to be replaced
